The biggest broadcasting organisation in the world, the BBC is over 70 years old. It is funded mainly from a television licence fee. Additional income is raised from programme sales and BBC publications such as books, videos, magazines and other products. There are three national regions, BBC Scotland, BBC Northern Ireland and BBC Wales. England has eleven separate regional TV, Radio and Online services..

BBC provides:

BBC 1 - mainstream high-quality popular programming of range and variety. The main news channel.
BBC 2 - alternative channel specialising in innovative subjects, arts and culture, some regional television.
BBC 4 - a mix of culture, arts, world cinema, science, history, business and current affairs.
BBC News Channel delivers news and analysis all day, every day – locally, nationally and internationally.
BBC World Service Group including BBC World Service (including multi-platform content in 29 languages), BBC World News television, bbc.com/news (the BBC’s international-facing online news site)
BBC News Online the website of BBC News. It’s the most frequently accessed news website in the United Kingdom, and forms a major part of BBC Online (bbc.co.uk), which records around 70 million unique users a week.

The BBC employs around 19,000 people and has an annual income of around 1.5 billion pounds which mainly comes from the Television Licence Fee. Additional income is raised from Programme Sales and BBC Publications such as books, videos, magazines and products.

The BBC operates under a Royal Charter and Licence, renewed in 1996. It is regulated by a Board of Governors appointed by the government, and traditionally reflecting a broad range of political and business experience. The Board of Governors appoint a Director-General.

English Regions
English Regions, part of the BBC's News division, is made up from 3,000 staff based from the Channel Islands in the south to the Scottish borders in the north. It produces daily regional TV News in 12 regions, weekly current affairs and politics shows in 11 of them and weekly sports shows in seven 'super-regions'. It runs 40 Local Radio stations and creates 42 BBC Local websites.
