For the third consecutive year, CIRCOM and MTVA ran a challenge in which journalists from across Europe compete for excellence in mobile storytelling. The Third MoJo Challenge took place at the Council of Europe - European Youth Centre in Budapest from 23rd to 30th October 2016.
For this Mojo Challenge edition, twenty journalists from eleven countries came either to learn new skills in mobile journalism or to enhance them. Ten journalists joined the beginners group where they were thought how to film and edit on their smartphones. Another group of ten — the advanced group — was formed out of former CIRCOM trainees who already had attended MoJo courses.
All delegates were to research, shoot and edit a piece of journalism in Budapest during the challenge. The trainees were supported in doing so by a group of leading MoJo and editorial trainers, all experienced professionals in their field: Wytse Vellinga, Omrop Fryslân, The Netherlands, John Inge Johansen, NRK, Norway, Jane Birch, BBC, UK, Olga Michalec-Chlebik, TVP, Poland, Guillaume Kuster, CIRCOM Regional, Tibor Kormány and Balázs Bende, MTVA, Hungary.
The two best packages in each category were awarded a prize by a jury of international television experts: David Lowen, CIRCOM Regional, Leonor Suarez Rodriguez, RTPA Asturias, Tibor Nagyistok, MTVA and Jean-Marc Dubois, France Televisions. A special prize in each category was also awarded for the showing of creativity in storytelling.
