What makes a great documentary? How can we make better documentaries with smaller budgets? How do we see the role of the documentary in the regions? How can we manage our creative ambitions as programme makers with limited resources?  How do we reflect and relate to our audience? How can we co-operate on projects, exchange ideas and programmes in the future?

There are lots of questions for European regional documentary makers – and hopefully some answers. CIRCOM is pleased to announce a 2 day workshop for 12 documentary producers and directors in Romania.

The event will take place at the Hotel Timisoara, Timisoara from May 3rd to 4th 2011.  Attendance at the workshop is free of charge to CIRCOM member stations.
Rooms, to be paid by the delegates, have been secured at the hotel for the special price of 65 euros per night to include breakfast and lunch.

Tony O’Shaughnessy, a former BBC News and Current Affairs Editor and documentary maker will chair the workshop.  A former Prix CIRCOM judge, Tony sees the workshop as an opportunity for documentary makers in the regions to share experiences, opinions and ideas. He wants to examine the role of the documentary maker in relation to the regional audience and to try to find solutions to the challenge of making documentaries in difficult economic circumstances.  Viewing sessions will be supported by debate and sharing of ideas and techniques.

It is expected that the workshop, consisting of documentary makers from a number of European countries, will provide an environment for an open and honest exchange about the various aspects of the work of the documentary maker.

Delegates are invited to attend the CIRCOM conference, to be held at the Hotel Continental in Timisoara from May 5th - 7th, where a special session will take place to discuss the issues and topics discussed during the 2-day workshop.
