Our member stations help us identify the best consultants, experts and trainers for the specific courses and workshops we offer. This gives CIRCOM the unique position of being able to call upon the leading experts from European public service broadcasters to deliver this unique service.

Active Trainers

Linda Hermansson (Sweden)
Linda works as editorial director for SVT Sàpmi in Sweden.
She has worked as head of many different local newsrooms at SVT and has extensive experience in leadership.
Since 2018, she has trained supervisors within SVT in leadership and feedback. Linda has also worked with minority editorial staff and is involved in issues related to inclusion and perspective.

Sophie Roland (France)
Sophie is a French investigative journalist and a certified trainer in Europe for Solutions Journalism Network (SJN). She trains French TV channels, (private channel TF1, public broadcaster France TV), national and local newspapers (Libération, La Croix) and school students in climate and solutions. In 2023, she was a coach for Telemundo Miami in the Climate Beacon Initiative, launched by SJN. In 2022, she co-authored “Upgrading journalistic practices to tackle the ecological emergency: a charter”, signed by 2000 journalists and 200 newsrooms and organizations in France. For more than 20 years, she worked for French National Public TV, France Télévisions, including popular investigative programs  “Envoyé Spécial” and “Cash Investigation”.

Mia Costello (UK)
Mia is a freelance journalist and trainer, specialising in editorial issues. She launched the BBC’s mandatory training programme for editorial leaders in 2009 and has since worked with media organisations from all over the world to develop bespoke training programmes.
She has spent more than 20 years in the BBC, holding senior editorial roles in TV and Radio.

John Inge Johansen (Norway)
Works as a multi-skilled journalist for NRK Nordland, in Norway. His region is the Lofoten Islands within the Arctic Circle.
He received a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Bodø, and studied as a teacher in science and technology at the University of Tromsø.
He produces and edits news for TV, radio and the internet. He is a pioneer of MoJo technology and training.

Darko Flajpan (Croatia)
Works as a full time television skills trainer at HRT, the public service broadcaster in Zagreb, Croatia. Before moving to Zagreb he was a multi-skilled camera operator, editor and journalist at the HRT regional centre in Bjelovar.
He is a regular trainer on the CIRCOM’s MoJo and Video Journalism workshops. In 2010 Darko helped establish the new training centre for HRT.

GUILLAUME KUSTER (France)
Guillaume is an expert trainer and consultant, helping organisations to design and implement new content production schemes for social media and digital platforms. He was a journalist for the French Radio France and France Télévisions for nearly 20 years before starting his own consultancy and training company. He's been working with CIRCOM for the last 5 years, designing and leading training sessions.

WYTSE VELLINGA (The Netherlands)
Wytse has been working with Omrop Fryslân in the north of The Netherlands since 2005. After 8 years of radio and TV work with regular cameras and recording devices he started experimenting with the Mobile Phone in 2014. After a short CIRCOM training he handed in all his other equipment and has been working solely on mobile devices ever since. As an experimental journalist he is looking for new ways to tell stories. He has been a Mobile Journalism and digital storytelling trainer for over two years and has trained journalists to "tell their story anytime and anywhere."

HANS JESSEN (Germany)
Hans had been working with ARD as a reporter, producer and presenter, covering regional and national politics, focussing on foreign affairs, ecological and cultural issues. He has been involved in CIRCOM training up from the very beginning in 1994. As a trainer he is interested in the structural and psychological dimensions of journalism und perception by the audience.
In recent years Hans has been involved in podcasts and other formats of web-journalism, cooperating with independent young internet journalists.

KULWANT SOHAL (UK)
Kulwant is BBC London's Digital Video New Editor. She has 15 years experience across multiple platforms, working as a journalist for online, TV, radio and digital platforms. As an editor of a new and evolving team she is all about telling creative stories that engage and inspire younger audiences. Much of her time is spent coaching and training TV and radio colleagues on how to maximise the impact of their original journalism for a digital audience.

JOHANNES KARDELL (Sweden)
Johannes works as project manager for the Local news online development at SVT in Sweden, with focus on finding new ways to tell stories with online video. He trains reporters and editors around the country in video editing and analyising.

KAROL CIOMA (UK)
Karol has been involved with and delivered CIRCOM Training courses for almost 20 years. He specialises in editing, camerawork and video journalism training. He has delivered training in over 20 countries worldwide. He has been helping deliver Mobile Journalism training using smart phones for newsgathering operations.

DIDIER DESORMEAUX (France)
A senior reporter with the French regional network, France 3, Didier is “Docteur en Sciences d’Information”, and is Head of the Department of Information and Multisupport at the University for French Television in Paris. He is the author of several books on TV News, and has been a CIRCOM trainer since 1994.
 

GLEN MULCAHY (Ireland)
Glen was the Production Development Manager with RTE News in Dublin. He is now Innovation Lead across all divisions in RTE. He is a pioneer of mobile journalism and his active blog site is the leading forum in Europe for the latest developments within MoJo working. Glen has a background in professional photography.

BLATHNAID HEALY (Ireland)
Blathnaid is a consultant, who works mainly with media organisations. She previously worked for WorldIrish.com, a startup focused on the Irish diaspora with an emphasis on online community. Prior to this, Healy worked for RTÉ, Ireland’s public service broadcaster, across its digital platforms. She graduated from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in Chicago with a Masters of Science in Journalism.

RANDI GITZ (Sweden)
Randi has been working for SVT in Sweden for more than 20 years. She works in the most northern region of Sweden. She has been a news presenter, made a few documentaries and loads of feature reports. She mainly works as a domestic news reporter, 95 % of the time alone as a videojournalist.
In 2014 Randi attended the CIRCOM MoJo training and after that she started to use the mobilephone to complement her other cameras. In 2016 she was awarded in the Prix CIRCOM for being the best videojournalist in Europe. Randi's motto is: Playing is fun! And if you have fun - you´ll learn. So lets play!

JANE FRENCH (UK)
Jane is the Editor for all Current Affairs output at BBC South. Jane has a long and distinguished career with the BBC and her specialism’s include investigations, environmental journalism and heritage.

SUE BEARDSMORE (UK)
Sue worked for BBC for over 25 years, as a researcher, in production, as a reporter and one of the main presenters of a daily regional news programme. She has extensive production, writing and coaching experience in TV and radio. She is now a freelance trainer and consultant on projects. She holds a degree in English and Politics and a Masters Degree in Mass Communications.
