Diploma of Erasmus EuroMedia Seal of Approval has been awarded to Circom-Regional for the educational multimedia product  of the Circom 2008 Annual Conference. It was handed over to Zoran Medved, TV Slovenia, as the host of the Annual Conference.

Zoran Medved himself presented this Certificate to Anita Bhalla, former President of Circom Regional. The certificate was awarded by  ESEC, European Soiety for Education and Communication e.V.

The Judges pointed out: “we have chosen a rather general expression for your prize winning product, declaring it as a media product to be used for the general educational discourse towards Europe (“educational multimedia product”).

DBW1postersessionThe Workshop „Digital Broadcasting“ that took place on September 18th and 19th, 2008 in Erlangen, Germany dealt with the newest developments in the field of Digital Broadcasting. The Workshop provided a forum for experts from research institutes, universities, industry, network providers and radio stations to exchange the new ideas, developments and applications in the area of Digital Broadcasting.

In this connection Andres Eben and Tobias Hellmuth from CIRCOM Regional attended the Workshop to present their paper “Mobile TV – Development, adaptation and broadcast of regional mobile content” in line with a corresponding poster session.

The paper presents guidelines for Mobile TV content creators. A modified workflow which optimizes the production process and reflects the special character of Mobile TV content is outlined.

In addition the Workshop attendants could experience Mobile TV during the event. The content related to the Digital Broadcasting Workshop was specially generated and transmitted live via DVB-H. The reception was realized with Nokia N77 devices.

Michael Lally, RTE – Galway,  is the new President of Circom Regional.

pharos1_ICT-Event-2008The ICT Event is Europe´s biggest research event for information and communication technologies and is organisied by the European Commission. The ICT takes place from 25th until 27th November and accomplishes researchers and innovators, policy and business decision-makers working in the field of digital technologies.

A main theme examined in ICT 2008 is “Future Internet”. In this connction “PHAROS Project” is presented at the ICT. PHAROS (Platform for SearcHing of Audiovisual Resources across Online Spaces) is an integrated project co-financed by the European Union under the Information Society Technologies Programme (6th Framework Programme).

 

PHAROS aims to advance audiovisual search from a point-solution search engine paradigm to an integrated search platform paradigm. This platform will be built on an innovative, open and distributed architecture that enables consumers, businesses and organisations to unlock the value of audiovisual content.

CIRCOM Regional is part of the “PHAROS Consortium” as well and is responsible for the content acquisition and provision behalf the PHAROS showcase. Moreover CIRCOM Regional as an association of professional broadcasters all over Europe operates with user testing and validation issues in order to promote PHAROS within a practical approach.

The PHAROS-project is all about building a next generation of audiovisual search platform to be designed, developed and applied jointly by a consortium consisting of high-profile academic and industrial players. PHAROS will develop an innovative search-driven  audiovisual technology platform that enables  consumers, business, and  organizations  to unlock the values found on the audiovisual content. Late February 2008 the PHAROS-project was reviewed for the first by the EU-Commission with the review: The PHAROS received the top ICT performance rate for EU projects: "good to excellent project".

PHAROS is very interesting to all CIRCOM-members as a new tool to perform our daily work.

PHAROS is funded by the EU-Commission.
