This workshop will help journalist to understand scientific facts on climate change and learn how to improve their editorial coverage.
The workshop is suited for 15 journalists and Chiefs editors comfortable with English who want to know more about climate change and biodiversity and learn how to cover those issues better in their daily reports. No need to be an environment journalist to participate.
Day 1 – Arrival 7PM

- Why climate change is affecting the world and Europe?
- Scientific key points of the IPCC & the planetary boundaries
- COP & Green deal in Europe: the keys to fight climate change?
- Weather events coverage: which words & images to use, which experts to help?
- Use solutions journalism in your climate reporting
- Tips to avoid greenwashing
- Exercise: interview with a company or a politician, the good questions to ask
Day 3 – Half Day 9AM – 1PM
- Examples of the best formats, reporting, explainer on climate change in the media
- Exercise: pitches on climate stories and new formats

The training is led by Sophie Roland, a French investigative journalist and a certified trainer in Europe for Solutions Journalism Network (SJN). She trains French TV channels, (private channel TF1, public broadcaster France TV), national and local newspapers (Libération, La Croix) and school students in climate and solutions. In 2023, she was a coach for Telemundo Miami in the Climate Beacon Initiative, launched by SJN. In 2022, she co-authored “Upgrading journalistic practices to tackle the ecological emergency: a charter”, signed by 2000 journalists and 200 newsrooms and organizations in France. For more than 20 years, she worked for French National Public TV, France Télévisions, including popular investigative programs “Envoyé Spécial” and “Cash Investigation.”
The event will take place at the European Committee of the Regions

You need to be comfortable speaking and discussing topics in English. This event relies heavily on contributions from delegates.
There are 15 places available. Each station can send a maximum of 2 people.
Places will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

- 165€ per single room, per night, breakfast included.
- 175€ per double room / twin, per night breakfast included.
- 4.25€ city-tax per room, per night
Travel and accommodation to be paid by delegate’s home station.
Evening meal on day 1 is offered by CIRCOM Regional.
Lunch at the Committee of the Regions canteen on day 2 and 3 to be paid by delegate’s home station.
Training free of charges
Any other expenses, including food are to be paid for by the delegates.
