Following a welcome from Josefin Ziegler, Coordinator of the CIRCOM Academy, Dorien Verckist, Senior Media Analyst and Public Value Lead at EBU Intelligence, will present a new report on the local and community-based value of public service media Strengthening the Community Fabric: How PSM serve local, linguistic and cultural communities.
Public service media are often described in national terms, but their roots run deeper and closer to home, in the regions, towns and communities they serve every day. Drawing on data from EBU Members, industry reports and academic research, the study examines the scale, diversity and value of PSM’s local and community-based offer, from regional news, audio, video and digital services to PSM’s distinctive role in sustaining local journalism, informing democratic participation, representing linguistic and cultural communities, and keeping people informed in times of crisis.
The full report is accessible to Members via the EBU Intelligence webpage.
In this presentation, Dorien will share the report’s main findings and focus on what they mean in practice for regional broadcasters. Afterwards, we'll open the floor for a Q&A.
