Timisoara, Romania
April 25th – May 8th 2011
The workshop took place from Monday April 25th to Sunday May 8th 2011. The training was open for employees of Circom member stations and designed for new entrants into television journalism, people already working as TV journalists who wish to improve on their skills and TV professionals who wish to add journalism skills to their portfolio.
It is a comprehensive workshop covering all aspects of TV reporting and allows time to practice the skills needed to be a TV journalist. Storytelling in news is a major part of the workshop.
The workshop is free to Circom member station employees, and accommodation is provided with breakfast and lunch. Travel to and from Timisoara is the responsibility of the station or individual.
Besides having the opportunity to work and produce news stories in Timisoara, the trainees were invited to participate in the annual Circom Conference. This year it was themed as “Doing it Better – Spending Less”, an ideal opportunity for young people to participate in the debate and look at the challenges and opportunities the future will hold. An important part of the conference was Prix Circom, the awards ceremony that recognises the best regional television programmes from across Europe. This year there is a new category in honour of Vanda Condurache, our fondly remembered Circom colleague. The category is entitled “The Rising Star” award, which recognises new talent in regional television. The category is open to those under 30 years of age and it is hoped that a delegate attending the TV journalism workshop in Timisoara will be the rising star of the future.
