“Fact-checking & Verification” workshop was hosted by Yle in Helsinki, Finland. The workshop, designed for journalists and producers who plan the content,  run for two days from Thursday 11th April at 10am to Friday, 12th April 2024 at 4pm.

This European elections themed workshop focused on:

– what is political fact-checking & how it's done
– monitoring election-related content online
– identifying and tracking election interference and disinformation campaigns
– computational propaganda & elections
– verification of visual media online: photos, videos, synthetic media
– tracking political ads
– investigating websites
– how to become the search expert in your newsroom
– lots of hands-on exercises connected to each theme (+handouts)

The workshop was led by Johanna Vehkoo, a journalist and non-fiction author who specialises in all kinds of misinformation and fakery on the Internet. She has written five non-fiction books, including works about abandoned places & post-industrial ruins, online misogyny, misinformation, and tolling. She is a founder of the online investigative journalism magazine Long Play. She has completed fellowships at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, Oxford University, and at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C.
