Free training for CIRCOM Members
What’s on offer?

A highly practical and interactive introduction to MoJo (Mobile Journalism).
This four-day, face to face workshop gives journalists the technical and creative skills needed to film & edit their own material using a mobile phone rig.
Delegates don’t need any previous experience of self-shooting or MoJo work. The course is designed to allow journalists with differing levels of filming/editing skill & experience to grow in confidence & ability.
Outcomes

Delegates learn to gather material & create a basic edit working alone.
They’ll understand the principles of filming & editing for TV & how self-shooting & MoJo differs from traditional processes.
Delegates gain hands on experience in:
- Working with MoJo kit, camera apps & mobile editing software.
- Shot composition & sound recording in real-world situations.
- Gathering shots & editing with them on the phone.
- Shooting interviews, sequences & moving shots.
- Creating a self-shot story from start to finish.
Pre-course requirements

Aside from having a smart phone, all you need to take part in this course is your creativity, energy and a willingness to try something new.
Kit & software

Bring a mobile smart phone (android/google phone - but iPhone preferred).
Download & install VN editing software (free version).
Optional – Download & install Black Magic Camera app (free version).
Optional – Download & install Filmic Pro software (no longer free – 5 Euros/month)
Optional – bring a laptop with edit software you are comfortable using.
Optional – bring any MoJo rig that you may already have eg: mics/gimble
Who will lead the workshop?

Jules Hyam is a highly experienced journalist and media trainer with 30 years’ experience at the BBC and as an independent film maker.
Dan Pomroy is a multi-camera studio and feature filmmaker with 30 years' experience working with major UK broadcasters.
What level of English do I need?

You need to be comfortable speaking and discussing topics in English.
When will it take place?

Monday 9 March: Arrival
Welcome dinner at the kind invitation of CIRCOM Regional (1900hrs – 2130hrs)
Tuesday 10 to Friday 13 March: 4 full days training (0900hrs – 1700hrs)
Saturday 14 March: Departure

The workshop will be 4 working days and will be restricted to15 participants only.

Who pays for what?

CIRCOM Regional provides the training free of charge for delegates from member stations.
Lunches & coffee breaks will be provided during the training course and offered by CIRCOM.
A welcome dinner will be offered by CIRCOM
Participants are responsible and will pay for their own travel, accommodation, and dinner expenses (except for the welcome dinner on 9 March).
