Short Description
A Daily Chronicle The Europe We Want : people and their lives
Five days a week a short daily chronicle (2 minutes) will be aired by each TV channel participating in the project. These short films will be produced by participating stations under the editorial and artistic direction of the central coordinating team. The programme will give the chance to a European citizen to show how his/her life is or could be affected by the changes taking place in Europe. Internews has successfully used similar formats in the past (”Sarajevo : a Street under Siege” or ”Belfast Lessons” produced by the same team for European channels (BBC, ARTE, WDR, SDF, Channel FOUR...).

A Weekly programme The Europe We Want : citizens and politicians
Every weekend, Saturday or Sunday, a special programme (30 minutes) will be broadcast by participating tv channels. This programme will bring together a politician from one of the regions or from the EU headquarters and a citizen. The confrontation will be direct, without moderator. It will create conditions to attract more attention to this subject and to foster a more direct exchange between political figures and common citizens. The emphasis will be put on this ”face to face” exchange. By using these two formats, ”The Europe We Want” wants to create a new Television space where people from different European countries will have a chance to represent themselves as citizens capable of influencing the way today’s Europe is being built.

Latest Development
A one month pilot experience should take place with the participants in November 98. The EUROPE WE WANT is supported by a grant of DG X. It has been developped by Internews Europe. The programmes will be produced by Agence Z.
