Short Description
The idea for this series is to look at how scientists across Europe are exchanging ideas which affect the lives of ordinary people in the regions and in the world at large. For instance, scientists are seeking to understand how the human brain functions in order to help those who have suffered brain damage. Researchers at the Max Planck Institute in Germany worked closely with those at the Oxford University in England to develop a retina made from Silicon to explore the way the brain interprets vision. Further in almost every region of Europe meteorologists are recording local climatic change to help build a world picture on the onset of global warming.

For this series Border Television will take local examples to illustrate what work is being done and place that in a European-wide context. The programmes will be in a narrative style to enable a greater interchange between participating stations.

Border Television has already made a regional science series ”Innovators” which demonstrates the format proposed.

Latest Development
This was first presented at the CR conference in Szeged in 1997.

The idea was then left to see if there was any interest from other stations. None was forthcoming. However, Border TV would still like to hear if any station is still interested. The new contact is Ian Fisher at Border TV.
