Past Coproductions: YIDDISH AS A EUROPEAN LANGUAGE
- Details
The ancient German based language, Yiddish, is experiencing a vivid rebirth today. The phenomenon occurs not only in the US and Israel but also in the big Jewish communities all over Europe. The Yiddish language has been influenced by several European languages, especially by Eastern European languages like Polish, Russian or Czech. On the other hand, Yiddish vocabulary appears in the feuilleton pages of international English language newspapers as well as on menus in New York, Copenhagen, London or Paris.
Where does it come from ? What is its history ? Where and how is it used today?
This co-production on the Yiddish language aims to answer all these questions and could be a good example for co-operation between European regional tv stations.
Duration: 15 to 30 minutes
