Short description
The European Year of Languages 2001 aims to celebrate Europe‘s linguistic diversity and to promote language learning. The European Year is organised by the European Union and the Council of Europe. What are the main ideas behind the European Year ?

- Language skills give people opportunities.
- If you understand someone‘s language, you can appreciate them and their culture better.
- Everybody can learn to speak or understand a new language, it is never too late or too early. Language learning is a lifelong process.
- The European Year is about all languages used in Europe. Each one is a key part of Europe's cultural heritage and of its future.

Circom Regional and the European Commission have decided to join forces for the promotion of these concepts and the Year itself. A series of short programmes will be produced and exchanged. Some financial assistance is still available. All programmes have to be produced in 2001 and must be broadcasted before the 1st March of 2002.

Next key date: 26 September 2001, the European Day of Languages.

Many activities have already been planned. For more details see : www.eurolang.2001
