Short Description
Since the ancient times people in Lithuania celebrate the midsummer (the shortest night of a year) called rasos festival or Kupoles. Ever since Christianity came to Lithuania this festival is linked with the name of St. John and is called Jonines.

Traditions of this festival remain also in Latvia. (called ”Lyguo”) and in Slavic nations.

It is the festival of midsummer of European nations, so there might be traditions of this festival or their echoes remaining in other countries, too.

Latest Development
Lithuanian Television suggests to produce associated series of programmes/films about the traditions of the midsummer festival and about the way it is celebrated nowadays.

It will produce a 20-minute-programme on this issue. Interested stations should contribute with 7 minutes.
