28 – 29 November 2024
RAI’s Sports Center and RAI’s main Headquarter, Rome, Italy
The training programme was designed for editors, journalists and managers. The speakers were different Rai’s experts from their Archives Department (Teche Rai) and from a number of editorial Departments using archive material on a daily base to create their programmes. They gave examples of how RAI has profoundly changed, particularly in recent years, the way it makes its programmes and narrates them with the help of its archives.
Topics of the training:
Mission of the Rai Archive Department (Teche Rai)
From physical to digital archive.
Enhancement and promotion of the digital archive and its access.
The Rai Multimedia Catalogue: when the past meets the future.
The use of the digital archive: from an editorial perspective to other commercial and non-commercial purposes. Customer Service (archive research, criteria, applicants).
How RAI uses its Archives in a creative way:
- Rai Teche: from storage Department to editorial/creative programmes producer, based exclusively on Rai archive materials (for example Techetecheté)
- Other examples of editorial use of archive material for the creation of new-concept programs: Rai Cultura, Rai Storia, Rai Play, Rai Play Sound departments
- Events based on the use of Rai archives: public screenings, exhibitions, anniversaries
- Other ways to use audiovisual archive material: non-profit institutional and commercial use
An important project: a collaboration between Rai and the Italian Ministry of Culture for the digitization of all TV news bulletins, of films from 1954 to 1986 and for the creation of a web portal available to the community. The example of a fruitful institutional cooperation.
International collaborations: coproductions based on the exchange of partner’s archives.
