Irish member stations RTE and TG4 hosted major celebrations in the West of Ireland in July to celebrate the decentralisation of the Irish language TV news service from the Dublin capital to the new regional base at TG4 Headquarters in Connemara on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

The day also saw the inauguration of the new Ross overdrive control room system which is a two person operation and is the system now driving  the RTE  and TG4 national  nightly Gaelic news bulletins.  Any CIRCOM members interested in getting more information on this can contact CIRCOM President Michael Lally who is also the boss of the entire new service.

Also at the launch was CIRCOM Gen Sec Peter Sauer, TG4 boss Pol O Gallachoir, Chairman of RTE Tom Savage, BBC Head of Regions and Nations Pat Loughrey. Messages of congratulations were received from the Irish prime Minister Brian Cowen and the leaders of all main political parties.

The new service is transmitting 45 minutes of TV news daily.

We have received sad news that our colleague Ahmed Hadzijamakovic from RTBH in Sarajevo died last week.

Ahmed was a long time National Coordinator for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Member of the European Board of CIRCOM Regional.

We will remember him as an exceptional professionalist and a reliable friend.

We express our deepest sympathy to his wife and family.

The President and the General Secretary of CIRCOM, Michael Lally and Peter Sauer, hosted a meeting on training in Dublin in July to plan for this years VJ course in Budapest, perform an early assessment of CESA  and to further examine the potential for commercial media training.

The meeting was attended by Anita Bhalla from BBC and CIRCOM Training Executive Karol Cioma.

A full report will be presented to the next EC meeting in Brussels.

pierre4It is hard to find words in this situation. Being in Groningen to prepare this year’s Annual conference of Circom Regional, we received the sad news that our colleague Pierre Couchard from RTBF in Brussels had died.

Pierre, one of the founders of CIRCOM, was a long time friend and supporter of the Association and contributed immensely to build Circom  into a strong, healthy and vibrant organisation.

Friendship is the term the Circom family associates with Pierre Couchard.

Only last week he was working on European co-productions trying to establish collaboration between European stations.

We will remember him as a brilliant journalist, reliable friend and a great European.

We express our deepest sympathy to his wife and family.
